A native of Athens, Mr. Byrd was a son of the late Jewell W. and Lucy Thornton Byrd and retired from Clarke County.
Survivors include son, Jeremy Byrd and wife, Miriam, of Arlington, TX; brothers, Tommy Byrd and wife, Virginia, Bobby Byrd and wife, Linda and Charles Byrd and wife, Regina; sisters, Betty Coley, Carolyn Hyatt and husband, Jim; sister-in-law, Helen Byrd and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, February 7 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-1:45 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home.
