James Michael Stefanek, age 71, of Athens, was born on October 30, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away on March 11, 2026. James was a generous, kind-hearted, and humorous man whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Theodore Jack and Elizabeth Ann Stefanek. He attended local schools and graduated from Wayne State University.
A retired postman, James dedicated his working years to the Livonia, Michigan Postal Service, where he served with pride until his retirement.
James loved to travel with friends. He also enjoyed cooking, reading and writing.
James is survived by his nephews, Robert Stefanek of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Bill Stefanek of Detroit, Michigan. He is also survived by his caregivers, Stephanie Walton, Catherine Pass, Willie Walton, Stephanie Walton II, Tray Tray Bell, and Tiffany Pass, all of Athens.
James was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Jack Stefanek; his mother, Elizabeth Ann Gurgul Stefanek; and his brothers, Robert Gerald Stefanek and Ronald Gary Stefanek.
No local services will be held. Interment will be in St. Hedwig Cemetery, 23755 Military Road, Dearborn Heights, Michigan, on Friday, March 20, at 12:15 p.m.
