She shared her family's dedication to Education and Fine Arts. She played the flute in the Cedar Shoals High School marching band, taught young children through the Athens Head Start Program, and volunteered during many productions at the Town and Gown Theater. Jessica also loved to read and instilled in her daughter Nikki a strong love of literature, which Nikki is now passing on to her sons, Isaac and Nathaniel.
Jessica suffered minor brain damage at her birth which led to a life-long affliction with epileptic episodes and physical and learning disabilities. Despite these handicaps, however, she never complained nor grew despondent; she tried very hard to have the same life as her peers, never yielding to self-pity. She lived independently, insisting always to make her own choices and decisions. This spirit created a person who participated fully in the life of her time.
She is survived by her father, Dr. Edmund B. Feldman, her sister Eva Jeanne Damato, her daughter Nikki Halstead, and grandsons, Isaac and Nathaniel.
