Joe Wayne Maxey

Wayne was a lifelong member of Bishop Baptist Church, where he was saved as a young boy.  He graduated from Oconee County High School, Watkinsville, GA in 1961.  He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1966.  Wayne worked his whole career with The Boeing Company, Seattle, WA.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Maxey; a brother, Michael Glenn Maxey and his wife, Debra Posey Maxey; nephew, James “Jim” Michael Maxey, nephew, Joseph “Joe” Glenn Maxey and his wife Katherine Poss Maxey; grandniece, Sarah Collier Maxey, and grandnephew, Robert “Beau” Wyatt Maxey.  He was predeceased by his parents, Dawson and Sara Maxey.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens. Reverend Eric Buffington will be officiating.
