A native of Athens, Mr. Phillips was a son of the late Joe Phillips and the late Velma Hale. He retired from the United States Navy with 28 years of service and also retired from Reliance Electric.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his only brother, Charles M. Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margarette Edwards Phillips of Athens; children, Whit Phillips of Colbert, Joey Phillips (Tammy) of Comer, Marilyn Vinson of Batesburg, SC and Elaine Kellum (Lamar) of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Heather Jacobson (Michael) and Daniel Kellum (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Will Jacobson and Hunter Kellum; several nieces and nephews and his beloved four-legged child, Trixie.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Revs. Lee Hunter and Larry Finger officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
