
John David Chambers, Sr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 9. He was born on May 11, 1961 in Athens. Growing up in Atlanta, he graduated from Pace Academy, where he was an outstanding athlete excelling in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. He attended Middle Georgia College and Oglethorpe University.
During his career in hospitality management he served as Manager for many years at T-Bonz in Charleston and Augusta and later at Harry Bissett's in Athens. He delighted in taking care of his customers, always striving to ensure that they felt welcome and valued.
David enjoyed music, the outdoors, fishing, and gardening. He was a loyal Bulldogs fan, loved golf, and always supported the Braves . He will be remembered for his kindness, devotion to friends and family, sense of humor, and that heartwarming smile. Throughout his battle with pancreatic cancer he inspired everyone with his positive attitude, leaving a legacy of courage and dignity for facing life's greatest challenge.
David loved and was very proud of his two children, Mary McCall and John David. He is survived by his parents, Nell and Bob Chambers, of Athens. His daughter, Mary McCall Chambers and son, John David Chambers, Jr., of Augusta. His brothers, Greg Chambers and his wife, Annabelle, of Brunswick, and Andy Chambers and his wife, Kristen, of Athens. His sisters, Amy Chandler and her husband, Brent, of Athens, and Beth Chambers, of Atlanta. His uncle, John Chambers, of Conway, SC, cousin, Tim Chambers, of Mooresville, NC, and nephews, Brent and James Chandler, Sam and Will Murray, Ryan Chambers, and A.J. Chambers, and niece, Lila Chambers.
On Saturday, June 16, 2012 a private interment will be at Oconee Hills Cemetery with Dr. Dan McCall officiating, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Athens First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Chuck Hodges. The family will welcome friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athens Academy, Episcopal Day School in Augusta, or Pace Academy in Atlanta.
