Joseph Lee Hardegree passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2025, at the age of 47. Born in Athens, Georgia, and raised in Watkinsville, Joseph was a proud Georgia native whose vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A painter by trade, Joseph, poured his creativity and hard work into every project, but it was his personality that truly stood out. He had a magnetic charm, a quick wit, and a love for making people laugh. Whether he was talking about his favorite sneakers or the latest in sports, Joseph had a way of lighting up a room.
He was known for his big heart, fierce determination, and a tenacity that carried him through life’s challenges. Above all else, Joseph’s greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Hayden. His love for her was boundless and unwavering, and he cherished every moment they shared together.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ricky and Patricia Hardegree, and his grandmother, Stella Harbin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Moon, and their daughter, Hayden Hardegree. He also leaves behind his brother, Julius Hardegree, and sister, Cheryl Keele, along with three nieces, five nephews, and one great-nephew—all of whom he loved dearly.
Joseph will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his humor, heart, and the fierce love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held Sunday, April 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at The Tree Room, 159 Oneta Street, Building 5, Athens, Georgia 30601.
