With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved, Joyce Diane Boyd, who departed this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2025, at the age of 82 in Hartwell, GA. She passed peacefully having her last days surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born on September 18, 1942, in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of Beatrice and Heyward Myers. She grew up in Decatur, GA where she developed the strong values and warm spirit that everyone knew her by. After graduating from North Druid Hills High, she went on to Business School at a community college. Around 1960, she married Edward Ray Brown, and together they had 5 children. Later, she remarried George Boyd.
She was a devoted mother and mother-in-law to Beverly and late Billy Dirickson, Wanda and late Louie Flanigan, Kevin Brown, Mark and Sarah Brown, and Shaun and Shanna Brown. She was a proud grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and she found great joy in sharing her wisdom, stories, and unconditional love. She never met a stranger and everyone that knew her, knew a kind-hearted woman.
Joyce will be remembered for her bubbly personality, bright soul, humor, and for the countless ways she touched the lives of others. She made everyone feel seen, valued, loved and never failed to let everyone know how proud of them she was. She was deeply involved in the church until the day she could no longer physically attend. She was never afraid to share the love of Jesus and sing out in a crowd. She fought through several cancers in her lifetime, which eventually took her sight, yet she never lost her joy in life.
She is survived by her sister, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was preceded in death by her spouses, parents, and late family. Her legacy lives on through all who knew her and were blessed by her love.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday June 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, GA. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA at 3:30 p.m.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA for their compassionate care. Flowers and memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home in her honor.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, her love, strength, and grace will forever be a part of our lives.
