Joyce Lynn Kasper (née Beveridge) was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 14, 1939. She grew up in St. Clair Shores an only child, but her 39 first cousins gleefully served as her playmates, confidants and fellow troublemakers until the day she passed.
Joyce wanted to be a nurse from before she could talk. Her parents Ruth and Walter insisted she was going to get a degree, even though nursing degrees were not common in the 1950s. Joyce attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1961 with a B.S.N. While in school she met Alan Kasper, and together they had three children, Linda Kasper, David Kasper, and Barbara (Kasper) Soblo, all who survive. In addition, her legacy will live on in her four grandchildren, Isaac Soblo, Hannah Soblo, Davis Kasper, and Hallie Kasper.
Joyce was a nurse at University of Michigan Hospital, Saline Hospital, and the V.A. Medical Center in both Ann Arbor, Michigan and Palo Alto, California, where she retired in the early 2000’s. In the past few years her neighbors and caregivers called her “the nurse” as she pointed out others who needed assistance and lovingly offered her thoughts and appreciation.
Joyce’s passions were the outdoors, national parks, camping, and pets. Tippy, Bonnie, Mazie, Joe, Pookie, Rocky, Sam, Max, Smokie, Flash…were just a few of the many dogs who got way too many treats.
