Karen Denise Pruitt, a beloved resident of Nicholson, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on June 9, 1962, in Athens, Karen graduated from Cedar Shoals High School and was a member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Karen was an avid University of Georgia Football fan and enjoyed spending her time crafting and cooking. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be cherished by her family and friends.
Karen is survived by her husband of 20 years, Bobby Pruitt, of Nicholson; her mother and stepfather, Pat and Carl Sewell, of Athens; her brother, Jeff Yarbrough, and his wife Susan, of Watkinsville; and her stepson, Joey Pruitt, and his wife Abbie, of Rayle. Karen will also be missed by her nieces, Kayla Pope and her husband Robbie, of Carlton, and Megan Yarbrough, of Watkinsville. Her step-grandchildren, Kylie, Lindsay, Noah, and D J Pruitt, all of Rayle, along with her great-nephews, Collin Yarbrough, Connor Pope, and Eli Pope, will fondly remember her.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Harold Yarbrough, and her beloved dog, Marley. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Lucy Ann.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
Karen will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens. Her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
