Karla C. Pinson, “Karla Mae,” 61, of Athens, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, December 11, 2018 surrounded by family, in the loving arms of her most cherished, her sweetheart, love of her life, Lane Pinson.
Born May 8, 1957 in Athens, she is the daughter of Virginia Hale Crawford and the late June Edward Crawford.
Karla retired from the University of Georgia after working 30-plus years, as the senior administrative assistant of the genetics department.
Lovingly referred to as the “Animal Whisperer” by friends and FAMILY, Karla had a special way with all of God’s Creatures (especially the warm cuddly ones). If she wasn’t raising bunnies she was nursing and taming baby squirrels and other critters, she was riding her beloved horse, “Mighty Wonderful”, or cuddling her brood of dogs at home.
She is survived by the love of her life, high school sweetheart, once-in-a-lifetime kind of love, her husband, Lane Pinson; her daughter, Melanie Lane, Larry Suarez of Athens; her mother, Virginia Hale Crawford of Athens; two sisters, Susan K. Crawford (Marie Roy) of Newburyport, MA and Lisa Crawford-Pringle (Lon); sister-in-law, Anita Pinson of Nicholson; her two beloved nieces, Katlyn and Madison; and her beloved nephew, James Pringle; Cambridge MA. Also missing her terribly are her current brood of fur babies, Cooper, Gabby, Maggie, and Sophie.
Honorary pallbearers will be all the members of the Florida Group, Joanne Reeves, Wanda Spinks, Alyce Payne, Carol Cernogorsky and Beth Nunnally. Special thanks to Ms. Joanne for giving extra attention and care so that Karla could still go on the last beach trip with her most beloved friends. She loved them all as family. This closely knit group of friends have been going to St. Augustine, Florida every year for thirty years. It’s what she most looked forward to, spending time laughing and cutting loose with all of her best friends.
Memorial service for Karla will be 2 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Nix officiating. Family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
