

Katherine resided at St. Mary’s Highland Hills Village since 2013. Katherine’s humor, optimism and zest for life were a gift to all who knew her. She was cherished and beloved to her family and friends.
Katherine received her Bachelor’s from Ferris State University in Michigan, followed by her Master’s and PhD from UGA. She taught at Athens High School and Cedar Shoals High School in the early 70’s. From 1979-1995, Katherine was a Professor of Economics and Statistics at Wingate College in North Carolina. She and her husband, Hermann, retired back to Athens in late 1995.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Hermann Kosak; her parents, Edwin and Erma Brownell; and her brother, Douglas Brownell.
Survivors include her children: David (Valerie), Philip (Cheer), Andrée (Ron), and Karen (Ira); 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; as well as her beautiful friends and caretakers at St. Mary’s Highland Hills.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m., in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Congregation Children of Israel section at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
