Krista was born July 31, 1946 in Jacksonville, FL to Julian and Olga Walters. She graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1964 and went on to pursue her love of music at Stratford University in Virginia. After attending there for two years she moved to Atlanta and began to work and plant roots and eventually raise a family.
She met William A. Henson of Athens, GA in 1976 and they just celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this past April. They spent many hours playing ALTA tennis and sailing on Lake Lanier and occasionally off the coast of Hilton Head. Sea Pines became Krista’s favorite vacation spot over the years, where she reveled in the waves and the sun. She had a laugh that was infectious, a smile that could literally light up a room and a hug that was ready to embrace those closest to her as well as a perfect stranger in need of cheering up.
She found great delight in so much of this world: the solace of her backyard bird sanctuary, as well as Disney and Christmas for the child in her, her beloved grandchildren, a fabulous sense of style, college football, Bible studies, Psalm 23 and every furry creature that God made (turtles too!). She had precious friendships that included many in her East Cobb neighborhood of 38 years, the halls of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church where she attended for over 35 years, her old high school buddies and even the strangers at the grocery could come to know her as a friend.
But of all that she embraced in this world, she absolutely adored her family. Her love and warmth live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Krista’s light shone ever brightly and this world will be a shade darker now that she is gone but Heaven is rejoicing. We love you Mom and find such comfort in knowing you’re truly at peace with your Lord and Savior.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include children, Alison E. Youmans (David) of Atlanta, Meghan Nichols (Rob) of Athens and Anders Henson (Katie) of Acworth; brother, Michael Walters of Jacksonville; and grandchildren, Emma Nichols, Everett Nichols, Collier Nichols, Anders Henson and Fitz Henson.
A private family graveside service was held Friday, July 10 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens.
A celebration where Krista's many friends may gather to honor her life will be held at a later date.
