Born in Athens, Georgia, the daughter of Charles Miller Johnson and Jean Drewry Johnson, Laura grew up with a vibrant spirit that touched everyone she met. She was a member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and was a 1971 graduate of Clarke Central High School. During her High School years, she enjoyed working with her father at Ideal Amusement Company. Afterwards she became a loyal and dedicated employee of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the State Bar of Georgia. Laura was also a member of the Junior League of Athens. Her compassion and creativity knew no bounds, whether it was through her professional or volunteer endeavors or in her travels.
Laura’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends in the North Georgia mountains or the beaches of South Carolina or Georgia. She was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt, cherishing every moment spent with those she loved. Her warmth and laughter filled every room, and her legacy of love and understanding will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
In addition to her family and friends, Laura was known for her love of travel, gardening, reading, and cooking, which brought beauty and joy to the lives of those around her. Her ability to see the best in people and situations inspired many and reminded everyone to embrace life's simple and profound treasures.
She is survived by her sisters: Mary Johnson Sumner; Watkinsville, GA and Carol Johnson White (Bob); Athens, GA; and her niece, Laura Payne White; Athens, GA, who will continue to celebrate her life and honor her memory. Laura was preceded in death by her mother and father, and the thought of their joyous reunion brings comfort to those who mourn her passing.
A reception and celebration of Laura’s remarkable life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Taylor-Grady House, 634 Prince Ave., Athens, Georgia, where family and friends will gather to share memories, laughter, and tears, honoring a life well-lived.
