Linda Catherine Martin, age 82, passed away in the early hours of Friday, October 3, 2025. Born October 23, 1942 in Watford, England, she was the beloved daughter of Harold Dennis and Kitty Goodwin Hewlett, and one of three cherished sisters.
Immigrating to the United States in her early adulthood, Linda embraced a life defined by adventure and curiosity which she instilled into everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Guided by this spirit, she became an avid traveler, leading to her work and eventual retirement from Delta Airlines. Her profession served as an extension of her admiration for culture, a love she continued to nurture through numerous journeys with her family.
Linda fostered a love for all arts through ushering at local theaters, attending local art galleries, and supporting her family's artistic endeavors. She loved tending to her garden, playing tennis and pickle ball, and volunteering within her community. Most of all, she showed unwavering love for her grand-children, filling their lives with water color paintings, scavenger hunts, and most importantly, English tea parties. She treated all as a friend and brought love to anyone nearby via the smile on her face and the sing-songy tune of her spirit. She will be missed immensely, though her life and legacy undoubtedly endures.
Survivors include her children, Tania Avolio (Robert Marett) and Simon Martin (Marta); sisters, Jean Bartsch and Margaret Pryce; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Martin, Simon Andrew Martin, Eden Summer Avolio, Kira Skye Avolio and Siena Camille Avolio. She is further survived by Joe Avolio.
A Celebration of Linda's life will be Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, with Rev. Craig Topple officiating, and a gathering with family afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/
