A native of Madison County, GA, Mrs. Fortson was the daughter of the late Weldon and Mettie Long Dean and was preceded in death by her husband, James Ellis Fortson. She was a retired supervisor with S.H. Kress & Co. and a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Young Harris United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fortson was beloved by her family and friends and known throughout her life for her kind and gentle spirit.
Survivors include brother, T.W. Dean and wife, Mary Jane of Newborn, GA; sisters, Quida Bridges of Commerce and Carole Wilson of Athens; 8 nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, February 8th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday, February 7th at Bernstein.
