

She was born on September 14, 1929 in Oglesby, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leo (Bob) Goetz; her parents, Albert and Margaret Allen; her brothers, Herbert, Harold and Melvin Allen; and her sister, Winifred Allen Farneti and niece, Janice (Jan) Hannon.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelley, and husband, Thom Whitmire, of Edgewater, FL; granddaughter, Erin and husband, Zbyszek Szewczyk, and precious great-granddaughter, Ava, of Acworth, GA. Also surviving is her sister, Gladys Allen Pryde of Oglesby, IL; niece, Sharon (Sherry) Spandanfino and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lorene's parents died when she was 10, and she became part of her sister, Winifred and Eugene Farneti's family. She was raised with her nieces, Sherry Spadafino and Jan Hannon.
Lorene was a graduate of LaSalle High School, LaSalle, IL. She attended the Oglesby Union Church in Oglesby, IL, where she married her husband, Bob. She became an Army wife when she married Bob. Following Bob's discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Athens, GA where Bob was employed at Westclox/General Time until his retirement. Lorene was a longtime member of Young Harris United Methodist Church.
Lorene retired from her part-time job as a secretary from the Men's Athletic Department of the University of Georgia. She then enjoyed her twenty-plus years as a Pink Lady in the gift shop at Athens Regional Hospital. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, playing bridge and canasta. To have Lorene as a friend was a friend for life. She was a good friend to everyone she met.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 2 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. David Wofford officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
