
Mamie J. Catlett of Athens, GA passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the age of 88. Although she lived in Athens, GA, she was raised in Madison County. She was the daughter of Cassie Scogin of Colbert, GA. She met and married her first husband, I.G. Shaw who passed away in 1966. She then met and married her second husband, Charles A. Catlett in 1970 and they were married until his death in 2004.
She was employed by Thomas Textile in Whitehall, GA as a seamstress for 40 years and then went to work for Ranik, Ltd in Athens, GA until her retirement in 1988. She loved to crochet and make beautiful things for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and going to the beach for raw oysters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Jerry McClure of Augusta, GA and Toni and Milton Parr of Athens, GA and grandsons, Preston McClure of Waynesville, NC and Wade Parr and Zack Parr both of St. Simons Island, GA. She is also survived by her favorite cousin, Hazel Wood of Athens, GA.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her friends, Phyllis Barnett and Miranda Browne for their care and companionship.

A celebration of life will be held 11:30am Friday, October 10 in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
