Manuel moved to the United States when he was 18 years old, beginning a new chapter marked by steady determination and a deep sense of purpose. He served in the United States Army for three years, a commitment reflecting a life shaped by duty and quiet strength. He later retired from Carrier/United Technology, closing a long working life defined by reliability and perseverance.
In his personal life, Manuel found joy in simple, meaningful pursuits—enjoying poker and cooking, and sharing his time and presence with others in ways both familiar and enduring. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens, Georgia, where faith and community remained important parts of his life.
Manuel is survived by wife, Gina Altares; son, Adrian Altares; daughter, Mariann Carroll (Blair); and grandson, Christian Blair Carroll. He is also survived by brothers, Edgar Altares, Delfin Altares, Jose' Altares, Raul Altares, and Rizalino Altares, Jr.; sisters, Sonia Arnado, Sylvia Ventigan, Erna Casala, Delia Antonio, and mother-in-law, Aurora Alunan.
Manuel was preceded in death by father, Rizalino Altares, Sr., and mother, Petra Abuyan Altares.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Georgia, on June 20, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home.
