Marcia earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. She brought that education into meaningful work in Cleveland and Gwinnett County, Georgia.
After moving to metro Atlanta in the early 1980s, she managed the Domestic Violence Center in Gwinnett County. She handled the intake for new people arriving at the shelter, collected donations, and provided counseling to many women to help stabilize their lives. Her steady professionalism and care for others were evident in the responsibilities she carried.
On New Year’s Day in 2001, Marcia opened The Yoga Source, a yoga studio in Snellville, Georgia, where she often taught several classes daily for six days each week. She owned and operated the studio for approximately 20 years. Through this work, she not only built a lasting community around wellness but also guided others as a yoga teacher trainer. Marcia received her 500-Hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) Certification, reflecting a deep commitment to learning, discipline, and the thoughtful sharing of her knowledge.
Marcia moved to Athens, Georgia 3 1/2 years ago and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens.
Marcia is survived by her husband, John Scott Scredon of Athens, Georgia; her son, Christopher Scredon (married to Kelley Scredon) of Athens, Georgia; her daughter, Laura Scredon Groves (married to Joshua Groves) of Bishop, Georgia and Sisters, Oregon; and her grandchild, Jude Scredon of Athens, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mark McCann, and her mother, Betty Wyman McCann.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm, in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens.
