Margaret, known by friends and family as Marge, was born in Erie, PA to William Peters and Mary Burke Peters on March 5, 1927. She graduated from Academy High School and attended Mercyhurst College in Erie.
Margaret married Paul Francis Carr, Sr. also of Erie, in 1950. She and Paul lived for many years in Warwick, RI where they raised their family of three children. In 2002, Margaret and Paul moved to Athens, GA to be closer to their daughter, Martha, who was a professor at the University of Georgia, and their son Brian, who lived in Atlanta.
In addition to spending much-loved time with her family, Margaret embraced her post-working life in Athens, volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, serving as an usher at the UGA Performing Arts Center and serving as a greeter at the Catholic Center at UGA. Margaret traveled fairly extensively during her 70’s and 80’s – even jumping on the back of her friend’s motorcycle to travel the country and experience the freedom of the open road.
Margaret is survived by her son, Paul Francis Carr, Jr., daughter-in-law Sheila Carr and three granddaughters: Miranda Biddlecomb, Allison Carr and Lauren Carr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Brian Carr, daughter, Martha Carr and son-in-law, Barry Biddlecomb.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
