Margaret Etta Frere

The daughter of Josephine and Ernest Rutherford of Lander, Wyoming, she was born in Douglas, Wyoming and grew up in Lander, Wyoming. She attended Lander High School and the University of Wyoming and graduated 1957 with a BA in Business Education. At UW, as a freshman she met Mo, a senior, at a Catholic Newman Club dance, dated during Mo's Army service and his master's program, then graduated and married Mo in 1957.

They moved to Berwyn Heights, Maryland for Mo's job as a scientist with the USDA in 1958 and raised their family that includes children; Ann, Jim, Donna and Bill. Margaret and Mo moved the family several times across the U.S and Europe which included; Wageningen, Netherlands, Durant, OK, Chickasha, OK, Slidell, LA and Athens, GA. She worked as a high school teacher in Chickasha, OK and Slidell, LA and then finished her career as an accounting clerk at Flowers Inc. in Athens, GA.

Margaret and Mo were active in their Catholic parishes throughout their lives, teaching religious education and lecturing in Oklahoma and Louisiana. They were active in St. Joseph Catholic Church of Athens, GA, participating in couples retreats, parish life and spiritual ministries.

Margaret was a wonderful wife, sister and mother and truly enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren for their school and sports activities. She encouraged and supported all her children and grandchildren to earn college educations.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mo Frere of 59 years and daughter Donna, brothers William Rutherford of Rawlins, WY and Frank Rutherford of California. She is survived by her sister Joyce Fleming of Riverton, WY, daughter Ann (Randy) West of Athens, GA, Jim (Leigh) Frere of Buford, GA and Bill (Kelly) Frere of Houston, TX and eight grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 958 Epps Bridge Parkway, Athens, GA for the family and friends and masks are required. A graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Park will follow the mass.
