1918-2012
Margaret B. Reed went home to be with the Lord following a blessed stay at St. Mary’s Hospice House. She was born September 17, 1918, in Thomaston, GA, and raised in Decatur, GA. Margaret attended Girl’s High, where she enjoyed the choral program, including performing as a soloist and part of a trio. After graduating from Wesleyn College, she moved to Athens, GA, to pursue a Masters of Music at UGA while teaching chemistry at Athens High School and directing a 60 voice boys’ choir from Chase Street School. During that time she was hired by First Baptist Church as a paid soprano soloist and soon became a devoted member serving the Lord through her musical talents as an adult choir member, director of children and youth choirs, as well as Sunday school teacher and leader in YWAs. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of over 63 years, Dr. W. Marion Reed, her parents Parrie Lee and Egbert M. Brantley, and brother, Tom. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Susan and Fred McNeal, Peggy and Joe Strickland; grandchildren Deanna McNeal, Dusty McNeal; great-grandchildren Sophie and Luke McNeal; sister-in-law Laura Reed; and a number of nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, April 18th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Baxley officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10-11AM prior to the service.
