Marie Edwards Allen

Born in Colbert, Mrs. Allen was a daughter of the late Austin Morris Edwards and Mamie Lou Epps Edwards. She was a graduate of Colbert High School and was perhaps the kindest and sweetest mother her children could ever have and the sweetest person anybody could meet. She was a devoted wife to Charles Allen, whom she married in 1953, and who preceded her in death in 2014. Her son, Greg Allen, preceded her in death in 2010.

The Allens owned and operated Allen Turf and Tractor in Snellville from 1980-2000.

In addition to her parents; husband; and son, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by brothers, Lynell Edwards, Odell Edwards, Quilla Edwards and Virgil Edwards.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Allen; two sisters, Myrle Fortson and Jeanette Daniels; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A heavenly thanksgiving for the sweet life of Marie Allen, observing all social distancing protocols, will be held Wednesday, February 17, at 1:00 p.m., at the cemetery next to Canvas Church, at the corner of Highway 29 and Harve Mathis Road, in Athens.
