Marlene Laverne Rickett passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Athens, Georgia, surrounded by loving family. Born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Marlene devoted her life to caring for others—both in her 40-year career as a nurse and in the countless ways she gave of herself to family, friends, and community.
On May 8, 1965, Marlene married the love of her life, Charles (“Chuck”) Alvin Rickett. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Marlene and Chuck remained steadfast partners for more than four decades until Chuck’s passing in January 2007. Their devotion to one another was a shining example of commitment and grace.
Marlene’s warmth and compassion touched everyone who knew her. She had a creative spirit and found great joy in sewing, knitting, and crafting. Her hands were rarely still—always making something beautiful to share. Marlene was also deeply dedicated to her church and spent many hours volunteering and supporting others through faith and friendship. Marlene also enjoyed escaping into nature, often to go camping with family.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Julie) and Jeff (Teresa); her beloved grandchildren, Jack, Emma, Sofia, and Charlee; and her sister, Cheryl Ann Morris. Marlene’s love, kindness, and generous heart will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Peoria, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local church or charity of your choice in Marlene’s memory.
