

She was the daughter of Norman and Sara George, and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Melvin Begnaud.
She was a member of the Greatest Generation. In the early 1940’s, she worked at General Motors installing radios in B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. During World War II, she, along with hundreds of thousands of other women, enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp. In the mid-1940’s, she met, and later married in 1948, then Lieutenant Melvin Begnaud of Scott, Louisiana.
As the wife of a career military officer, she, with her husband and children, traveled across the United States and Europe. In 1976, she and her husband settled in Athens, Georgia. Her greatest passion was her family.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Jane Begnaud of Athens, Georgia, son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Begnaud of Marlton, New Jersey, and son, Brian Begnaud, of Athens, Georgia, along with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held on Monday, September 14, 2015. She was laid to rest next to her husband, Melvin Begnaud, at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family asks that flowers and memorial contributions be omitted.
Bernstein’s Funeral Home in Athens, Georgia handled the arrangements.
