Melvin J. Heider

Melvin J. Heider passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.
Mr. Heider was born in LaSalle, IL on October 19, 1919 to Anton and Elsie Heider. He moved to Athens in 1980.
He devoted his fifty year career to the Westclox Division of General Time Corporation where he held Manufacturing, Engineering and Operations management positions at their facilities in Illinois, Connecticut, Alabama and Georgia. Mr. Heider spent three years in the US Army Air Corps during World War II serving in the Continental and North African theaters of operation.
He was married for 57 years to the former Shirley Sutton, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Klosterman (John) of Columbia, SC and son, James Heider (Delaine) of Royston, GA; one granddaughter, Jennifer Klosterman Dent and four grandsons, Andrew Klosterman, Christopher Heider, Jacob Heider, Justin Rollins, as well as seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Joop of Mahomet, IL, along with nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Athens.
Private funeral services are being handled by Bernstein Funeral Home with entombment at Evergreen Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia or Kindred Hospice.
