

David Dunbar passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 24, 1946, in Athens, Georgia, he lived a life centered on family, laughter, travel, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
David is survived by his soulmate and wife of 54 wonderful years, Elaine, who was by his side in every season of life. He is also survived by his children, Kristy Avera (Andy), and Mike Dunbar (Evette); his brother, Mark Dunbar (Linda); and his beloved grandchildren, Kolbi, Kenzie, Tristyn, Freddie, and Henry. He also leaves behind two cherished great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Dunbar, and two brothers.
A natural jokester, David, had a gift for making people laugh. Whether he was teasing someone, playing pranks, or spinning wild and crazy stories, he brought joy wherever he went. His sense of humor has given his family many memories and stories to tell—and laugh about—for generations.
David absolutely adored his family, and they were the heart of his world. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, he and Elaine embraced their shared love of travel, taking countless cruises and exploring the world together. Those adventures were filled with laughter, good food, and love.
He will be remembered for his loving nature, his sense of humor, and being the best husband and father in the world. His legacy lives on in the family he treasured.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Bernstein Funeral Home.
