Dr. Pat Harrison

Pat Harrison, 95, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. After 95 years of a life marked by faith, service, family, and countless cherished memories, he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Gloria, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage.

A man of deep faith and unwavering devotion to others, Pat spent many years serving as a pastor. His calling to serve extended beyond the pulpit, as he later served as Executive Director of Alabama Baptist Retirement Centers and Chief Executive Officer at Dalraida Nursing Home. He was a long-time member and teacher of the Men’s Poundstone Sunday School Class at First Baptist Montgomery. Throughout his life, he found great purpose in caring for others, encouraging those around him, and sharing his faith.

While his professional and ministry accomplishments were many, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He leaves behind four children, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, all of whom adored him tremendously. His family will forever remember his wisdom, his kindness, his stories, his sense of humor, and the love he so freely gave.

Pat had many passions that brought him joy. He was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs football fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer for his team. He also loved the Atlanta Braves, traveling, and going out to eat. An avid golfer, he enjoyed both the game itself and the fellowship that came with it.

Pat was a native of Albany, Georgia and a resident of Montgomery, AL for the past forty-one years.

Pat Harrison is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Malcolm Harrison; his son-in-law, Erik Wicklund; and his parents. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Mary Helen Bannister Harrison; his four children: Patti and Michael B. “Rock” Smith of Wetumpka, AL; Dodi Wicklund of Foley, AL; Jack Harrison and Brittany Yoes of Baton Rouge, LA; and Jenni Currie of Foley, AL. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Brock) Reynolds, Julie Smith, Jodi (Josh) Cameron, Glen (Ashley) Wicklund, Ashley Wicklund, Tessa (Mack) Harrison, Felix (Travis) Harrison, Ryan (Richard) Currie, and Riley (Rachel) Currie. His nine great-grandchildren are Norah Reynolds; Freya, Erik, and Kara Wicklund; Bailey, Jace, and Ty Cameron; and Magnolia and Ivy Currie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews along with countless others whose lives were touched by his faith, kindness, and love.

He lived a long and meaningful life, leaving an enduring legacy in the lives of the people he served and, most of all, in the family he loved so dearly. Though his absence will be deeply felt, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has finished his earthly journey and has been welcomed home to his eternal reward.

The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who loved and cared for Pat during the final years of his life, especially Martina Turner, who lovingly called him “Bud” and became like family. We are also thankful for Martina’s team of caregivers and the Amedisys Hospice staff for the compassion, dignity, and comfort they provided. The family will be forever grateful for the love they gave Bud and for the peace and comfort they brought not only to him, but to all of us who loved him.

A Graveside Service will be held at Oconee Hill Cemetery, 297 Cemetery Street, Athens, Georgia 30605, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael B. “Rock” Smith (son-in-law) and Rev. Canon Ryan Currie (grandson) officiating.
