

Patsy “Pat” Messer McElroy, 91, of Athens, Georgia, passed away on November 2, 2025. Born on March 12, 1934, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Lorell and J.D. Messer. Pat was a proud graduate of Athens High School, where she built lifelong friendships and a deep love for her hometown community.
Pat spent over 60 years working with Premium Distributing Co., later known as Leon Farmer and Co., where she was known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and the way she treated every coworker like family. Her kindness was not something reserved for only a few—Pat never met a stranger, and everyone who crossed her path felt welcomed and appreciated.
A spirited sports fan, Pat could always be found cheering on her beloved Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Hawks. Whether she was watching a game on TV or talking scores with family, her enthusiasm was infectious and always full of personality. Pat was also an avid bowler for many years, earning numerous tournament wins and awards.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Lorell and J.D. Messer, as well as her siblings, J.D. Messer Jr. and Jean Messer Kutchey. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends who became family through the years. They will always carry Pat in their hearts, along with her warmth, humor, and generous spirit.
Pat’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched—family, friends, coworkers, and anyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Services will be held at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, GA on Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
