Born in Jackson County, GA on October 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Cora B. Wood and Ancle C. Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whitehead, a daughter, Peggy W. Godbee, sister and brother-in-law, Willie (Hank) and Ralph Waldroup, sister-in-law, Polly B. Wood, and brother-in-law, Charles Wingard.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Billy Williams of Winterville; sister, Grace Wingard of Hartwell; brother, Calvin Wood of Ellenwood, GA; 6 grandchildren and their spouses; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whitehead worked at several sewing plants, the last one being Henson Garment Company. After leaving public work, she looked after her mother until her death. She was always there when someone needed her help in any way. She was lovingly called “Maw” and was known for her good cooking, especially biscuits. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Whitehead was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church for many years, was a member of the Ladies Sunday School and the Senior Adult Ministry.
The service will be held 2PM Monday, May 11th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2PM prior to the service.
