Robert Hoyt Lewis, age 84, of Athens, was called home Friday May 3, 2013. Born September 21, 1928 in New Hope, Alabama Mr. Lewis was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Lewis. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers William and Don Lewis. On May 20, 1949 he married the love of his life Martha Simpson. Together they raised a family of four in the Tennessee town of Redbank. Hoyt was a homebuilder and master carpenter, as well as employee with DuPont. In 1976 they relocated to Athens, GA. His outgoing personality always won people over. He was always quick with a joke and loved to have a good time. Hoyt grew up with a thirst for adventure, always ready to try something new. As an avid outdoorsman he went on fishing trips to Alaska, snowmobiling in Colorado, and four wheeling in the mountains of Tellico. With his love of the outdoors he became very dedicated to many charities that defended and protected wildlife. I spent many wonderful times with Hoyt in Tellico. He was my very special friend. His infectious laughter coupled with his fun loving personality made company with him a genuine pleasure. These exceptional personal qualities were his shock absorbers that eased the rough parts of life. Hoyt's light on earth ended too soon, but he will live forever in our hearts. When someone you care for becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Hoyt's memories are now our very special treasures. Hoyt's life was shaped not by what he carries with him....but by the wonderful treasures he has left for us..
Its not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years. Hoyt's years overflowed with life!

It was a joy to have known Hoyt, first as a neighbor and then in a business relationship. He always had a joke to share and a smile to bring you when delivering the bound editions. He will be missed! My deepest sympathy to the family.
