Robert “Bob” David Painter, 78, of Athens, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018.

A native of Waukegan, IL, Mr. Painter was a son of the late David Painter and Margaret Nelson Painter. He was a member of the Athens Rotary Club, an avid stamp collector and was plant manager at Benson’s Bakery for over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Painter was preceded in death by his brother, James Edward Painter. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marge Painter of Athens; children, Patty Lester (Mike) of Greensboro, David Painter (Debra) of Colbert and Bobby Painter (Vicki) of Hull; sister, Sue Valentine of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Ronald Epperson (Amy), Erin Self (Caleb), Jesse Painter (Amanda), Amber Painter and J.T. Painter; great-grandchildren, Reese Self, Claire Self, Asher Epperson, Olivia Epperson, Landon Painter, Kate Painter and Anna Painter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 20 at 6 p.m. at the home of David Painter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookside Assisted Living, 199 West Gary Rd., Commerce, GA 30529.

I remember the time that Papa and grandma came down to visit us at our house and I took him for a ride in my Corvette and he was so happy he said I added to the 10 yrs his life he said it was fantastic!
