

Ronald L. Peyton passed away in Athens, GA on December 24, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Patesville, KY to the late Leroy and Nellie Peyton. Ron was a proud 1949 graduate of Owensboro High School. After high school he began his first career with the U.S. Navy where he retired after 20 years of service. During his service he was stationed in San Diego, Norfolk, VA, Corpus Christi, TX, Subic Bay Philippines and Brunswick, GA as well as numerous assignments at sea in the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he completed his degree at the University of Kentucky and began his second career as a Special Education teacher at his beloved Owensboro High School. In addition to teaching, he also served as the boys and girls golf coach. During this time, he received his master’s degree at Murray State University and his Rank 1 from Western KY University. He retired after 25 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Joan Peyton, his wife of 63 years and his brother Howard Peyton. He is survived by his son Jeff (Julie) Peyton of Athens, GA; grandchildren Laura (Chris) Reonas of Sugar Hill, GA, Lindsey (Ken) Beemer of Bogart, GA; five great-grandchildren; his sister Glenda Alexander of Owensboro and several nieces and nephews.
