She was born in 1932 in Royston, GA, and attended school in Hart County. She was a member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens for over 60 years where she served on several committees, taught Sunday school and worked with the youth group. She was also a voting poll worker and blood donor. She loved being outside working in her flower beds and especially enjoyed cutting her lawn on her riding lawnmower. Above all, she loved her Lord first, her family, and her church.
She was predeceased by her parents, D.L. and Lydia Segars; her husband, Charles Mercer Phillips, Sr.; brothers Travis, Loy, Oscar, Condis, Tommy and Dwaine; and sisters Lessie Ayers, Ruby Duncan, Sue Ostean, and Lozelle Cape.
She is survived by her children, Charles Mercer Phillips, Jr. (Kathy), Lydia Phillips Finger (Larry) and David Theo Phillips (Mandy); sisters, Patricia Poole and Celeste Shiflet; sister-in-law, Margaret Phillips; grandchildren, Emily Phillips Ullrich (Brandon), Matthew Phillips, Kelly Finger (Ashleigh), Sara Finger Blakely (Adam), Davis Finger, Ryan Phillips (Lindsey), and Kyle Phillips. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21 at 2 p.m. at Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
