

A native of Florala, Alabama, Mrs. Mize was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alma Watson Nelson and was preceded in death by her husband, Elias P. Mize. Mrs. Mize was employed as an Agricultural Specialist with United States Department of Agriculture for over 37 years. She was a volunteer at Chase Street School; coordinated monthly birthday parties for residents of Grandview Nursing Home for over 15 years, and was Friends of Bill, a wish fairy with Make-A-Wish Foundation, and a member of the Athens Women’s Club. Mrs. Mize was Partners for Education through the Athens-Clarke County Chamber of Commerce and a member LIFT. She was a member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, where at various times she served as church historian, a member of the Board of Trustees, President of the United Methodist Women, and chair of the Outreach Committee. Mrs. Mize was instrumental in organizing volunteers for the annual North Georgia Methodist Conference held at the Classic Center, was a member of Friendly Crusaders Sunday school class, and the Older Gems. She was organizer of Red Cross blood drives at Young Harris for over 15 years, organized school supply drives at the church every August, and spent time during the year getting donations for various needs. Mrs. Mize worked with Interfaith Hospitality Network where she served as an overnight host, brought Thursday night dinners, and attended fundraisers.
Survivors include sons, Charles Mize of Watkinsville, GA and George Mize of Tucker, GA; sister, Inez Hart of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Benjamin Mize, Aaron Mize, Matthew Mize, Jeremiah Mize, and Valerie Mize, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, July 3rd at Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wofford and Rev. Kathleen Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Tuesday, July 2nd at Bernstein Funeral Home.
