

Sarah Juanita Newton, of Athens, GA, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at home after a brief illness. Born on March 12, 1934, in Gainesville, GA to the late Charles and Addy Moore, Juanita was second of seven children. They were Thelma, Sue, Peggy (deceased), Barbara Ann, James, and Richard.
She was an active member of the former Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church for over 62 years where she served on several committees and sang in the choir. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and attended her church every time the doors were opened. She and Glenn loved to travel visiting all 50 states, many cruises to the Caribbean and to many countries in Europe. But her happy place was the beach, whether on St. Simons Island or Florida, she loved sitting on a beach. But her greatest Joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them.
Juanita was married to Glenn Hugh Newton for almost 60 years. They moved to Athens and raised their 3 girls. She was predeceased by the death by her husband, Glenn Hugh Newton in 2013 and her daughter, Karen Leigh Newton in 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Newton Bryan (Thomas Edward Bryan, Jr.), daughter, Teresa Newton Jackson; her grandchildren, Thomas Edward Bryan, III (Claire), Ashlee Glennis Carter, Marguerite Elizabeth Bryan (Natalie) Ana Jackson; and her great-grandchildren, Maret Elizabeth Bryan, Sarah Foster Bryan, and Caleb Carter; brother-in-law, Carl Clifton Newton, Jr. (Vivian); and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation shall be at the graveside at Evergreen Memorial Park on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 9:30 am. A graveside service shall be held at 10:00 am in Evergreen Memorial Park, with Rev. David Wofford officiating.
