Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Hoke and Allene Edwards. She graduated from Athens High School and went on to dedicate her life to nurture young minds. She began her career with the Clarke County School system before opening and operating a successful day care. She was affectionately known as “Ms. Anne” to many area children. Her life work was deeply rooted in her love of children.
A devoted member of the former West End Baptist Church, Anne found her spiritual foundation guided her life and was evident in the love and care she extended to those around her.
Anne was also an avid painter who found joy in expressing herself through art. She delighted in sharing her paintings with friends and family.
Above all else, Anne cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her family was the heart of her world. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Gary L. Slayton (Susan) of Winterville, GA; David L. Slayton of Statham, GA; and Donna Wade (Hudson) of St. Simons Island, GA. Her memory lives on through her grandchildren: Kelley Slayton (Genia), Lori Davidson (Mike), Matthew Slayton (Alison), Jeffery David Smith, Miriam Dills (Scott), and William Wade. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Anne’s warmth, dedication to family, and artistic spirit touched many lives. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
