Sheldon Kuppersmith, age 90. Beloved husband for 69 wonderful years of Jacqueline Kuppersmith, loving father of Michael and Nancy Kuppersmith, Shari and Jimmy Cobb, Donna France and Kelly and Debbie Kuppersmith; cherished grandpa of Alex, Jessica, Melissa, Anna, Katie and Josh, proud great grandfather of James; devoted son of the late Philip and Jessica, and son-in-law of the late Murray and Minnie Burstyn; caring brother to Sandra; adored uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Shelly was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Shelly attended Brooklyn Technical High School, where he received a strong education and played on the varsity football team. After high school, Shelly enlisted in the army, proudly serving his nation during the Korean War. After his service, Shelly attended Long Island University for two years, then began his career in sales in New York at Hilti Fasteners, where he spent most of his career until he started his own business, SK Sales.
In college, he met Jackie on a blind date, and they quickly fell in love. 6 months later, they were married in a rabbi’s study in the Bronx. Shelly moved around for work, taking their young family to Brooklyn, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and the suburbs of Atlanta, GA.
While living in Georgia, Shelly and Jackie spent time in a cabin on Lake Hartwell and loved spending weekends and vacations on the lake. Shelly’s career spanned more than 50 years, and he retired in 2010 to spend more time with his loving family and settle down in “South Flatbush,” their lake house on Lake Hartwell. Shelly and Jackie spent years traveling the world, including many sailing adventures in the Caribbean. Shelly was an avid reader, always enjoying mornings on his patio or in his chair by the lake. He loved hosting his family on the lake, captaining his boat while his grandchildren learned to waterski and manning the grill for barbecues. Above all, Shelly loved spending time with his family in the place he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for contributions to the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation.
