She was born Sylvia Elizabeth Galt in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 28, 1950, the daughter of the late William Richard Galt, Jr. and Evelyn Elizabeth Epps Galt.
Survivors include a brother, William Richard Galt III (Billy) and sister-in-law, Cynthia Ann Galt (Cindy) of Athens, GA. A sister, Mary Virginia (Ginger) Galt (Epley), passed away January 15, 2021 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Ginger was married to Donald George Epley of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Sylvia graduated from Athens High School in 1968. She then went to school to become an x-ray technologist, and worked in that field for several years before studying to be a nuclear medicine technician, and worked for a number of years in this field. An avid reader, she opened an online bookstore for a time, and, being a cat lover, started an online cat store selling cat mementos.
Sylvia became an avid SCUBA diver, and, along with their dad, visited her brother Billy several times in Florida, and once to the Philippines, and they all enjoyed themselves on a live-aboard boat around Bimini for a week, catching and eating lobster and grouper for their supper every night!
Sylvia moved back to Athens about 10 years ago, to be closer to her brother Billy, Cindy, and a niece and nephews. She attended Athens Technical College for her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate, and worked as a personal care aid until retirement.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at a later date.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
