Tom was born October 28, 1937 in Fairfield, Alabama, but grew up in Biloxi, Mississippi where he graduated from Biloxi High School in 1955, then attended Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1959 and later a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. Upon graduating he joined the Air Force and had a distinguished career piloting fighter and recon aircraft serving 21 years, including two tours of Vietnam and retiring at the rank of Colonel. After retiring from the Air Force he became a Utility Contractor working and staying in business for 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lois Ellen Gibson; their two sons, Thomas Edward, wife Mandy and Michael Carter, wife Michelle; grandson, Jacob Randolph and his mother, Elizabeth, and his two brothers, Dr. Timothy B. Gibson and Ted W. Gibson, and seven nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 11AM Saturday, December 1st at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday, November 30th at Bernstein Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, 3195 Barnett Shoals Rd, Athens, GA 30605.
