Timothy Alfred Janke, born in 1941 died peacefully at his home on January 16, 2021. Tim was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, marrying his high school sweetheart, Roberta Bedalov, in 1962, shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After a fulfilling life in Wisconsin and Minnesota, Tim and Roberta happily retired to the warmer climate of Athens, GA in 2003 be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Tim had a lifelong passion for banking and finance and had a successful 40-year career within the banking industry throughout the Midwest, which culminated as President of the Mitchell Bank in Milwaukee. Always active in the community, Tim was a President and a Paul Harris Fellow in his 20-plus years in Rotary International, a past President of the Jaycees, as well as several executive boards throughout his life. Tim and Roberta were also recognized supporters of the Naval Academy following their son’s attendance and extended career. While residing in Athens, he continued service as the Chair of the Finance Committee for Saint Joseph Catholic Church and School for over 11 years.
Throughout his life, Tim truly cherished meeting new people and he had a knack for easily striking up conversations wherever he went. Whether at grandkids’ sporting events, on the golf course, at church meetings, or especially making the rounds to his many favorite breakfast joints, he returned home with a story of a newfound friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Ethel Janke, and his brother Terry Janke. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Roberta Janke; daughter Denise Morris (Bob), Athens; son CAPT(ret) Chris Janke, USN (Trish), St. John’s, FL; grandchildren John Morris, Thomas Janke, Sydney Janke, Will Morris, and 10 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday, January 21, at 2:00 PM, followed by a private burial at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
