

Wayne spent a lifetime in honest work and steady dedication, building not only projects but also a reputation for reliability and care. He worked in home construction and was the owner of McElroy Backhoe Service for 60 years, a long and faithful commitment that reflected both skill and perseverance.
Beyond his work, Wayne found deep enjoyment in the pursuits that brought people together. He built race cars and sponsored races, and he loved horses. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren, valuing the simple, lasting moments that become a family’s dearest memories.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth McElroy; and his sister, Pat Bennett.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Barnett McElroy; his son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Erin McElroy; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Richard Ingram; and his grandchildren, Henry and Bess McElroy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sanford Community Center, 6469 Nowhere Road, Hull, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Terry Wagner will speak. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 2227 Diamond Hill Neese Road, Hull.
