Wayne Winford Voyles

Born May 23, 1946, in Franklin County, Wayne was a son of the late Alvin Winford Voyles and Nettie Pauline Ramey Voyles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Shauna Smith.

Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Georgia Power after 36 years of dedicated service. His life reflected steady commitment—both to his work and to the people and responsibilities entrusted to him.

A man of deep faith and quiet service, Wayne served as a deacon at West End Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church. He loved children and found particular joy in serving as a game commander for the Awana Club at church. He also coached the Madison County 4-H BB Gun Club for many years, generously sharing his time, guidance and encouragement with its young members. Wayne and his wife attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Wayne’s greatest devotion was to his family. He and his wife, Brenda, shared 58 years of marriage. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and treasured the moments—both ordinary and memorable—shared with those he loved. He also enjoyed being outdoors, taking pride in his yard and working in his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Davis Voyles; daughter, Melissa Peery (Ed); son, Jason Voyles; brother, Tommy Voyles; son-in-law, Ed Smith; seven grandchildren, Carlie Cleveland (John), Hannah Muller, Josh Brown, Matthew Peery, Nicholas Smith, Andrew Peery and Katie Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Braxton, Julianna, Gavin, Brent and Grayson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens.

A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2227 Diamond Hill Neese Road, Hull. Interment will follow in Winterville Cemetery, Parkview Road, Winterville.
