Butch was born April 7, 1949, in Alexandria Bay, NY, the son of Carlton and Gwendolyn (Paul) Snyder. He married Sharon Doxtater at the home of her parents in Pamelia on October 25, 1969.
Butch was a lifelong resident of Pamelia, attending the one room schoolhouse where he and his future wife Sharon first met. After graduating in 1966 from Indian River Central High School, Butch voluntarily enlisted in the US Army. He served from 1966-1969, doing a tour of duty in Vietnam from January 1968-April 1969. Butch was well known in the Pamelia Four Corners community as an owner-operator of Doxtater’s Market. He was also employed at the Fort Drum Commissary as a meat cutter until becoming disabled. Butch fulfilled a dream of escaping the harsh Northern New York winters for the warmer climate of the South, spending the past 3 years in Athens, Georgia.
Butch loved the outdoors, fishing and relaxing on the Indian River, hunting, bird, and wildlife watching, classic cars, antique clocks, watching sports, cutting wood and being with family.
Butch was a past member of the Pamelia Volunteer Fire Department and Lyme Rod and Gun Club. He also volunteered by coaching his son’s Evans Mills Village summer baseball team and umpiring games.
Butch was proud to say he was a Vietnam veteran and to be a kidney transplant survivor of 10 years.
Butch is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon; daughters Michelle Snyder, Evans Mills, NY; Ada Snyder-Haskell and husband Jack, Grant, FL; son Blake Snyder and wife Giordana Diaz, Athens, GA; granddaughter, Riana Jackson; grandson, Noah Snyder; sister, Wanda Enslow and husband Walter, Evans Mills NY; brother-in-law Bruce Doxtater, Evans Mills, NY; nieces and nephews.
