Born on September 10, 1932, in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of Hulan Horace and Alice Brown Hudgins. Both of his parents died while he was of elementary school age, after which he was raised by his maternal aunt and uncle, Mary and Frank Hopkins in a welcoming family along with his six first cousins in Union Point, Ga. After graduating from Greensboro High School in 1950, he joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1954. While in the Air Force he married JoAnne Adams of Gainesville, Ga. and they had two children.
After his service, he attended the University of Georgia on the GI Bill and graduated with a BBA in 1960. He began his career in accounting in Augusta and Atlanta, Ga. before moving to and settling with his family in Athens, Ga. in the summer of 1966.
After the dissolution of his first marriage, he married Brenda Snelling Hudgins in 1976 with whom he happily shared a “Dawg” life until his passing. They spent many fun-filled years and traveled many miles to see their Dawgs play football wherever the schedule might take them.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; his two children: Elaine Coile Hamdy (David) and Dave M. Hudgins (Janice); stepsons: Scott and Alex Davidson, five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and younger brother, Jack Hudgins.
