Born in upstate New York, Bill Hugunine was the son of the late Harry Fenton Hugunine, Jr. and the late Joan Fuller Hugunine. Bill retired from a long distinguished career in the insurance industry in New York City, having raised his family out on Long Island, in the Suffolk County town of Mt. Sinai. Bill first met his wife Fran in 1969 at SUNY Oswego and they would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on September 7th of this year. They retired to Athens in 2009. Bill enjoyed tennis, fishing, boating, reading (often three books at once) and spending time in their lake house in Alabama. He also enjoyed serving as a volunteer docent and researcher with the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Library at the University of Georgia. His biggest joy in life, though, was spending time with family and watching his four grandsons' various sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Fran, sons: David (Kristen) and Daniel (Ashley) and four grandchildren: Cole, Jack, Caden and Reid.
The family will hold a private "celebration of life" at a later date with their recollection of memories of Bill as the wonderful husband, dad and grandpa that he was. Not only will he be missed dearly by his family, but also by his many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at (stjude.org/donate).
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
