He was preceded in death by his older brother, Robert Owen.
As a young man, Ron was a proud member of the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and carried a tenor drum in 1963, the year the Bugle Corps drum section was ranked third in the country and played at the Orange Bowl, Busch Stadium and Soldier Field. They were also invited to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. He wrestled for East Saint Louis High School, from which he graduated in 1964. Ron was the first in his family to graduate from college and worked to pay for his education. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois in 1970 and went on to receive his law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1974.
Ron was a practicing lawyer until the early 1980s, when he left the law practice to spend more time with his former wife, Corene, and their young son, Brock. Ron then worked in the insurance claims and adjustments industry until his retirement in 2013. Known for his tenacity, high energy and loyalty, Ron helped many friends over the years with various legal matters, from disputing traffic tickets to planning matters of the estate. He never turned away a friend needing assistance, regardless of time of day or circumstance.
In recent years, he found his church home at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and enjoyed fellowship with church friends as well as time spent with his grandchildren on Sunday mornings. Ron was a beloved Grandpa and will be greatly missed.
