

Alexander Stephens Hopkins, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, died December 19, 2014. He was born January 12, 1932, in Atlanta to Alexander S. Hopkins, Sr. and Dorothy Duttera Hopkins. Alex attended Spring Street and E. Rivers schools. After moving to Madison, Georgia, he attended the local schools. Alex graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in law and was a member of Chi Phi fraternity.
Alex served as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War. Returning to Atlanta, he worked as a Trust Officer at The First National Bank of Atlanta. He later went into business with Jim Young, establishing the firm, Young & Company. Alex then joined Ferry, Hayes & Allen as business manager and treasurer until his retirement.
Alex was predeceased by his father, his mother, and his stepfather, Neal Vason. Alex is survived by his partner of 37 years, Dan Frye, his brothers Neal Vason, Jr. and Wayne Vason and Wayne’s wife, Lee and their children Kathie and Fin.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 27 at 11:30 o’clock at Decatur City Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringhill.com.
