Angelica Esperanza Garcia, age 84, of Metairie, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. She and her family had evacuated Metairie as a consequence of Hurricane Ida and were staying with her niece and nephew Lizette and Steve Snyder and their two daughters, Lexy and Aria. At the time of Angelica’s passing she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born to Bernardino and Visitacion Garcia in Guantanamo, Cuba Ms. Garcia was one of the first women draftsmen to work for Avondale Ship Yards designing vessels for the US Navy. She began her career at Avondale in 1967 and retired after 40 years of service.
Throughout her life she was a great traveler and ventured to many destinations throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, Australia, and South America. Creative and artistic, Angelica also devoted much time to painting, flower arranging, and crafting and always lent her talents to help family and friends with weddings, birthdays, and special occasions. A life-long supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Cancer Hospital, she was devoted to their mission to help children in need. Ever generous and cheerful, Angelica is deeply missed by those who knew her best.
She is survived by her sister Anita Canseco; her sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Alfredo Leanza; and her brother and sister-in-law, Perucho and Anita Garcia.
Her nephews and niece, and their spouses, Jose and Sam Canseco, Carlos and Deleyxi Garcia, and Lizette and Steve Snyder also mourn her loss. Great nieces and nephews Michael & Julie Canseco and their daughter Amelia, Katherine and Ryan Holstein, Lexy and Aria Snyder, and Gia and Lucas Garcia carry her memory in their hearts.
